Transparency Statement

Forest & Flour puts earth and people first. That means we will do the best we can to pay our team members a living wage (transparency - we are not fully there yet. The living wage in the Bay Area is $23 an hour. Livable Wage Calculator). And we will do the best that we can to implement “people first practices” within our company.

The price and practice of Forest & Flour reflect our mission and value. I’m proud to say that we have a team where everyone is provided a space to thrive as a valued human. In addition, we do the best we can to work with regenerative and sustainable farmers and purveyors. All of whom have complementary visions and values.

——

Historically, service industry workers have been heavily exploited. Americans have come to accept a system where our food is heavily subsidized unevenly and the labor cost is shifted to the responsibility of the diners through a completely arbitrary tipping system. We believe that the price of food should reflect its true cost and everybody should be paid the wage they deserve. If we want to see things change for the better but decide that it’s not worth it when it comes to voting with our dollars, then further reflections are needed - are our actions and values in alignment with who we want to be? Or are we just paying with lip service?

——

I understand that not everyone is in a position to spend their hard-earned money on “everything” to help better this world (I live with this as well 🙋🏻‍♀️). There is so much to take into consideration when we live in a capitalist society. At the end of the day, we still need to take care of ourselves and our families.

——

What I want to say is this - If we want to see changes being made then we have to take action toward making those changes, however small or trivial they may seem. Change is uncomfortable. But we can do it together because what you feel I feel, too. That’s what makes us human.

Thank you for making Forest & Flour a great place to work.
